Chapter 6

Author pov.....

Ranvijay tapped the edge of his plate, his mind racing with the idea he had just formulated. Marriage. Practical, logical, and with no emotional baggage—exactly what he needed to solve his parents’ persistent nagging and his societal obligations.

The fact that Sanyukta seemed to share his disinterest for the typical romantic drama was a bonus. He hurriedly finished his food, fixed his hair in the nearest reflective surface, and walked purposefully toward Sanyukta’s mother.

---

“Namaste, Maa ji,” he greeted warmly, bowing slightly and touching her feet with practiced ease.

Startled, Sanyukta’s mother looked up, trying to find any sign of familiarity. “Namaste, beta,” she replied, her brow furrowing in curiosity.

“I’m Ranvijay Shekhawat,” he began with a small smile, “criminal lawyer by profession and Satyam ka boss.”

Her face lit up with recognition. “Oh, achha, achha. Aap wahi ho jinke baare mein Satyam ne bataya tha.”

Ranvijay nodded, relieved the first hurdle was over.
He cleared his throat before hurriedly knitting a fake sad and emotional love story in his head to somehow convince her mother and to look genuine.

“Actually, Maa ji, mujhe Satyam ke zariye Sanyukta ke baare mein pata chala. I’ve met her twice, and honestly...” He paused for effect, glancing away briefly as if gathering courage. “I felt a connection with her.”

Her eyes widened slightly, and he continued, lowering his voice to sound sincere. “Woh mujhe kisi ki yaad dilati hai... someone I loved deeply but lost in a tragic accident.”

“Achha?” Her voice softened, curiosity laced with empathy.

“Yes, Maa ji. Aap bilkul meri maa jaise hain, toh mujhe laga aapko apni baat bata sakta hoon.” He smiled faintly, the perfect picture of a respectful and vulnerable suitor.

“College ke time par ek ladki thi... beautiful, kind, strong. Hum shaadi karne wale the, par ek accident mein maine usey khod diya.”

“Oh beta...” Sanyukta’s mother’s hand went to her chest as she shook her head sympathetically.

“Uske baad maine decide kar liya tha ki main kabhi shaadi nahi karunga. Lekin... parents ko dukh nahi de sakta tha, aap toh khud maa hain. Unki baat maanni padhi.”

“Haan, bilkul. Maa toh apne bachon ki khushi ke liye sab karti hai,” she said, her voice trembling slightly.

You are damn good Ranvijay...he praised himself mentally seeing his plan working smoothly.

He seized the opportunity. “Sanyukta bilkul uski tarah hai—strong, independent, yet kind-hearted. Jab Satyam ne bataya ki aap uske liye rishta dekh rahe ho, I thought... why not talk to you directly?”

His words left her momentarily speechless. Finally, she managed, “Beta, yeh toh acchi baat hai. Par Avu—”

Ranvijay didn’t miss a beat. “I know about Avu, and I’m more than ready to accept him. Bachchon ke saath mera hamesha se accha connection raha hai. In fact, kabhi socha tha ki adopt kar lunga. Par agar mujhe Avu jaisa pyaara beta mile, toh usse badi baat kya ho sakti hai?”

Nice dialogue You genious...tv serials are not that useless I guess .
Credit goes to Dadi ....she is my all time saviour. Love you Daddi ....He mentally thanked his Dadi .

Her heart warmed instantly, his words striking all the right chords. “Beta, tum jaise bhale log aaj kal bohot kam milte hain.

Satyam ki behen ke saath toh meri Sanyukta badi hui hai... ek baar galat haathon mein dekar bohot pachtaye. Par ab lagta hai Bhagwan ko meri bachi par taras aa gaya hai.”

Ranvijay placed his hand gently on hers, his expression earnest. “Maa ji, main wada karta hoon ki kabhi shikayat ka mauka nahi dunga. Aap ye meri taraf se rakhiye,” he added, slipping her his business card. “Jaldi hi main apni family ke saath proposal bhejunga.”

Sanyukta's mother was clearly impressed with his words and personality.
Pandit Ji's words striked her mind and she was sure that Ranvijay is the one who is destined for Sanyukta .

“Khus raho, beta,” she said emotionally, pulling him into a motherly hug.

Ranvijay turned and texted Satyam.

“Food court. Now. Hype me up in front of Sanyukta's mom . Be subtle.”

Satyam appeared minutes later, visibly confused but obedient. As instructed, he casually mentioned Ranvijay’s professionalism and kind nature, bolstering Sanyukta’s mother’s confidence in him.

Ranvijay smirked to himself. “Ranvijay, tu toh genius hai,” he muttered under his breath, patting his own back mentally.

“Sir, ek baar dulha-dulhan se mil lijiye,” Satyam insisted as they made their way to the stage.

“Congratulations, dulha-dulhan,” Ranvijay said, shaking hands with the groom. “May your married life be full of... patience and diplomacy.”

Shiksha chuckled while the groom gave a sheepish nod. Sanyukta rolled her eyes. “Patience and diplomacy? Matlab shuru se hi darane aaye ho, Mr. Lawyer?”

Ranvijay smirked. “Nahi. Aaj sirf shaadi ke liye aaya hoon.”

“Shocking. Mujhe laga tha aapka kaam aur khaana ke alawa aur kuch priority list mein nahi hai.” she mocked .

“Ab priority badal gayi hai,” he replied cryptically, his gaze flickering toward her briefly.

Sanyukta, standing off to the side, couldn’t resist chiming in. “Aapke tone se toh lagta hai ki aap shaadi ke expert ho, Mr. Shekhawat.”

Ranvijay turned to her, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “Expert nahi, but I’ve seen enough courtroom dramas to know shaadi aur case mein zyada farak nahi hota.”

Sanyukta folded her arms across her chest, her brows raising in defiance. “Courtroom ki baatein mujhe samajh nahi aati, kyunki main ek teacher hoon, not a lawyer.”

“Teacher ho sakti ho,” Ranvijay quipped, his tone teasing, “par tumhare arguing skills kisi seasoned lawyer se kam nahi. Isliye tumhare liye ‘Miss Lawyer’ perfect hai.”

“Excuse me?” Sanyukta’s eyes widened in indignation. “Mujhe argue karna nahi pasand. Aap ke  jese log provoke karte hai, tab karna padta hai.”

Ranvijay grinned. “Dekha? Aise articulated  counterpoints toh ek lawyer hi de sakta hai.”

Sanyukta rolled her eyes. “Mujhe lagta hai aapko  apna profession badal kar stand-up comedian ban jana chahiye.”

“Thanks for the career advice, Miss Lawyer,” Ranvijay said with a wink, refusing to back down.

Avu, meanwhile, tugged at Sanyukta’s dupatta. “Mumma, maiii  bhi photo lunga!”

Before Sanyukta could respond, Ranvijay bent down and lifted Avu effortlessly, setting him beside Shiksha. “Hero, yahaan khade ho. Aaj ki shaam tumhari hai.”

Avu clapped happily while Sanyukta scowled. “Avu, neeche utro. Tum Shiksha ki dress kharab kar doge.”

Ranvijay straightened up, looking at Sanyukta with mock seriousness. “Relax, Miss Lawyer—sorry, Miss Teacher. Avu mera client hai, aur client ke khushi sabse zaroori hoti hai.”

Sanyukta shook her head in disbelief. “Yeh drama Avu ke saath karo, mujhe mat include karo.”

Avu interrupted with a loud, “Mumma bhi photo le lo!”

Reluctantly, Sanyukta stepped forward, standing at the farthest edge of the group. Ranvijay couldn’t resist another jab. “Tum photo mein bhi dur hi rehna pasand karti ho. Shaadiyon se itna darr kyun?”

“Shaadiyon se nahi, Aap jese logo se  darr lagta hai,” she shot back.

Ranvijay grinned, clearly enjoying her irritation. “Tumhara darr valid hai, kyunki mere paas unche logic ka weapon hai.”

Before Sanyukta could fire back, the photographer clicked the picture. Just as the group began to disperse, Ranvijay leaned in closer to Sanyukta and said in a low, teasing voice, “See you soon, Miss Lawyer.”

“Stop calling me that!” she snapped, glaring at him.

“But it suits you,” he said, flashing a disarming smile before walking off.

The wedding rituals concluded, and as guests began to leave, Ranvijay spotted Sanyukta holding a now-sleepy Avu in her arms near the exit. With his trademark confidence, he approached her.

“Sanyukta,” he called out, drawing her attention.

She turned, narrowing her eyes. “Ab kya hai ?”

Ranvijay smirked. “Sirf bye bolne aaya hoon. Itni hostile kyun ho?”

“Aap  jese log dosti ke layak hote hi nahi,” she quipped.

“Good thing I’m not here to be your friend,” he shot back smoothly. “Vaise, tum itni aggressive kyun ho? Teaching profession mein thoda patience zaroori hota hai, Miss Teacher.”

Sanyukta sighed. “Aapke  naam ke saath Shekhawat hona kaafi hai samajhne ke liye ki Aapke  logic ka level kya hoga.”

“Arre wah,” Ranvijay said, pretending to be impressed. “Miss Teacher, tumhe history ke saath saath psycho analysis bhi aata hai? Truly impressive.”

She rolled her eyes. “Goodbye, Ranvijay.”

He smirked, bending slightly to ruffle Avu’s hair. “Bye, little buddy. Tumhari mom se milne ke liye ek achha reason ban gaye ho tum.”

Sanyukta’s jaw dropped. “Excuse me? Aap  kya keh rahe ho?”

Ranvijay straightened up, his tone light but loaded with meaning. “Mujhe seriously lena shayad tumhari aadat ban jayegi, Miss Lawyer.”

“Mujhe aapko  seriously lene ki zarurat hi nahi,” she countered.

Ranvijay chuckled softly. “Jald hi pata chalega.”

Without waiting for her response, he turned and walked away, leaving Sanyukta fuming and confused. As he exited the venue, he whispered under his breath, “Game on, Miss Lawyer. Tumhe samajhne mein maza aayega.”

*************************

The next morning,

Ranvijay joined his family at the breakfast table with an unusual enthusiasm, surprising everyone. It wasn’t like him to be up so early, let alone so cheerful. He was either working late into the night or sleeping till noon.

"Why are you all staring at me like that?" he asked, piling food onto his plate without hesitation.

"Kuch nahi bhai, bas aadat nahi hai subah subah aapke darshan ki," Anushka quipped, earning chuckles from everyone at the table.

"Well, get used to it because I’ve decided ki ab se main roz subah uthunga," he announced with a smirk.

"Kya baat hai, chalo kabhi toh akal aayi," his father remarked with a raised eyebrow.

Ranvijay leaned back, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Papa, it’s not about akal. It’s because I love my maa too much. Unki baat ko taal nahi sakta... I wish sabke bacche aise hote, kyun Daadi?"

Daadi, catching the undertone, scoffed and gave his father a side-eye while the others stifled their laughter.

Ranvijay allowed everyone to finish their breakfast, knowing the bomb he was about to drop would disrupt the peace. Generosity wasn’t his strong suit, but he thought he’d let them enjoy their first meal in tranquility—for now.

Once almost everyone was done, except for Anushka, who was still nibbling on toast, he cleared his throat. "I have something important to discuss."

His mother looked concerned. "Kya baat hai, beta? Serious hai kya?"

He reached out and took her hand gently. "Maa, it’s very serious. In fact, it’s one of the biggest decisions of my life. But don’t worry—the final decision will always be yours."

His mother smiled at his words, but his father narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

Standing up, Ranvijay walked over to his Daadi and sat beside her, casually draping an arm around her shoulders. "Mujhe pyaar ho gaya hai, Daadi. Aur main usse shaadi karna chahta hoon."

The silence that followed was louder than any gasp.

Anushka almost choked on her toast, coughing violently, while Daadi’s face lit up with excitement. Pratap’s jaw clenched, his grip on the newspaper tightening, while Ranvijay’s brother, Ranveer , raised an eyebrow in suspicion.

Anjali was silently witnessing everything already expecting something unusual as it's Ranvijay talking about love and relationship.

She got up silently and took Aarvi away sensing an upcoming Strom .

"Kya, sach mein?" his mother finally asked, her voice filled with disbelief.

Ranvijay nodded earnestly.

"Kaun hai vo jisne mere Ranvijay ka dil jeet liya?" Daadi asked with a wide smile.

"Her name is Sanyukta," he said, pausing for dramatic effect, "and she recently got divorced."

"Kya? Divorce hua hai?" his mother exclaimed, the shock evident in her voice. "Matlab uski pehle bhi shaadi ho chuki hai?"

Ranvijay sighed, thinking, Abhi toh bache ka mention kiya hi nahi. Asli dhamaka toh baaki hai.

Before he could speak, Pratap erupted, "Aur tumhe laga ki yeh baat share karna subah-subah zaroori tha? Us ladki ka abhi divorce hua hai, aur tum sochte ho ki woh iss ghar ki bahu ban sakti hai? Dimag toh kharaab nahi ho gaya hai?"

"Sirf divorcee nahi, Papa," Ranvijay said, his voice calm but firm, "uska ek do saal ka beta bhi hai."

If his first revelation caused shock, this one felt like an earthquake.

"Ranvijay! Are you even in your senses !" his father thundered. "Subah-subah humara dimaag kharab karne ke liye hi utha hai  kya aaj?"

"Main toh good news dene aaya tha. Digest karna aap logon ke bas ki baat nahi, toh usme meri kya galti?" Ranvijay said, his tone laced with sarcasm.

"Beta, shadi mazaak nahi hai," his mother tried to reason. "Kitne achhe rishte aa rahe hain tere liye. Aur tu ek divorcee aur ek maa se shaadi ki baat kar raha hai?"

Ranvijay leaned forward, his voice steady but sharp. "Maa, divorce hona aur ek bache ki maa hona crime nahi hai. Agar kisi ladki ne apne liye aur apne bache ke liye ek toxic relationship chhod diya, toh hume usse appreciate karna chahiye, na ki uska character ko  question karna."

"Aise lofty speeches suna ke tum hume impress nahi kar sakte, Ranvijay," Pratap shot back. "Jis society mein hum rehte hain, uske kuch rules hote hain. Tum samajh rahe ho?"

Ranvijay smirked, his tone sharpening. "Papa, yeh 'society ke rules' kisne banaye? Aur kyun main unka gulam banu? Aap chahein toh main iss baat ko chodunga, lekin ek baat clear hai—agar Sanyukta nahi, toh koi nahi."

"Ranvijay, bas karo!" his mother pleaded.

Ranveer , who had been quietly observing, finally spoke up. "Papa, ek baar us ladki se mil lena chahiye. Agar Ranvijay itna sure hai, toh shayad usme kuch toh baat hogi."

Pratap turned to him sharply. "Tumhare bhi ideas khatam ho gaye kya, Ranveer ? Tum jaante bhi ho society kya kahegi?"

Ranvijay stood up already having enough of the family drama . "Shaam tak aapka decision chahiye. Final decision aapka hoga, aur main usse maan lunga."

Leaving his stunned family behind, he walked out, muttering to himself as he got into his car. "Subah-subah poori energy khatam kar di in logon ne. Achha hua breakfast toh kiya tha."

He revved the engine, muttering under his breath. " Chalo ye toh shaam tak haan kar denge .
Now let me focus on my future in laws and wife...
She is no less dramatic compared to my family . She will fit well with these people.
Ye faltu ki tension le rahe hai ".

"Sanyukta "...it's your turn now
Smirking, he drove off, already plotting his next move.
