Chapter 16

Author pov...

The next morning...

Golden rays of the early sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow in the room. Sanyukta, as usual, was up early. Dressed in a vibrant yellow suit that perfectly complemented her glowing face, she admired the dark hue of her mehendi for a moment before tying her dupatta neatly. Happiness radiated from her, a testament to the contentment she felt in her new life.

Avu, ever the energetic little boy, was already awake and dressed in his favorite little outfit. He bounced into the bedroom, clutching his tiny toy car in one hand.

"Daddyyy..." he pointed at Ranvijay, who was sprawled on the bed, deep in slumber, his messy hair sticking out in all directions.

Sanyukta, amused, bit back a smile and whispered to Avu, "Jaao, wake up your daddy."

With a mischievous grin, Avu climbed onto the bed. "Dadyyyyyyyy..." he called out sweetly, sitting beside Ranvijay, but his father didn't stir.

Avu looked back at his mother, his lips curving into a cute pout. Sanyukta chuckled, walking closer, and gestured for him to pat Ranvijay's cheeks.

Avu obediently patted Ranvijay's cheek, and after a dramatic groan, Ranvijay's eyes finally fluttered open.

"Dadyyyyyy!" Avu squealed in delight, throwing his tiny arms around Ranvijay's neck.

Ranvijay chuckled, pulling Avu into a warm hug. He kissed Avu's chubby cheeks, his deep voice still groggy. "Why are you up so early, champ? Let's sleep a little more," he said, his words slow and lazy.

"Bilkul bhi nahi!" Sanyukta quipped from the corner, crossing her arms with a playful smirk. "It's 6:30 already, and Avu is a good boy. He wakes up on time, unlike someone else."

Ranvijay groaned again, lying back on the bed and staring at her with a teasing glint in his eyes. "Hmm... toh ab typical biwi waali harkatein shuru kar hi di hain. Not bad."

Sanyukta laughed softly. "Chaliye ab uth jaaiye. Mai aur Avu niche jaa rahe hain." She scooped Avu into her arms, planting a kiss on his forehead. Ranvijay nodded lazily but predictably sank back into his pillow the moment the door closed.

Downstairs, the aroma of freshly brewed tea wafted through the air as Sanyukta prepared milk for Avu and tea for herself, Dadi, and Pushpa. The clinking of utensils broke the morning quiet, and soon, Avu was perched beside Dadi, his eyes wide with excitement as she regaled him with funny anecdotes from her youth.

"Arey, Avu toh sabse pyara bacha hai. Itni jaldi uth gaya!" Dadi said, running a loving hand over his hair. Avu giggled, his innocent grin lighting up the room.

Pushpa watched the scene with a soft smile.

Meanwhile, the rest of the family began trickling into the room, exchanging morning greetings and chatting about the day ahead.

"Ranvijay uth toh gaye the... aaye kyun nahi abhi tak?" Sanyukta thought, glancing towards the stairs.

"Sanyukta," Pushpa began, "aaj shaam ko ek chhota sa muh dikhai ka function rakha hai. Kuch family friends aur relatives aayenge jo shaadi mein nahi aaye the."

Sanyukta smiled and nodded. "Ji, Maa."

"Bhabhi, I will help you get ready," Anushka chimed in excitedly, and Sanyukta gave her a warm smile in response.

"Roshni, tum log bhi muh dikhai ke baad hi nikal jaana," Dadi suggested, looking at Roshni, who was busy sipping her tea.

"Nahi, Maa. Humari tickets afternoon ke liye hi book hain," Roshni replied matter-of-factly.

"Maa, please na, it's just a matter of a few hours," Kirti interjected with a dramatic pout.

Roshni frowned. "Kirti, you've already taken a whole week off from college. Phir Arnav ki shaadi mein bhi leave lena padega!"

"But 2-3 ghante ke difference mein kya ho jaayega? I can attend college tomorrow even if we leave in the evening," Kirti argued, turning to Nani with pleading eyes.

"Thik keh rahi hai woh," Dadi declared. "Ranveer tum logo ko drop kar dega airport shaam ko. Muh dikhai ke baad hi jaana ab."

Pushpa joined in the persuasion, and Roshni finally gave in, shaking her head with a reluctant smile as Kirti cheered and hugged her mother.

As the family sat down to a hearty breakfast, Sanyukta slipped away quietly, making her way back to her room. She pushed the door open and groaned, finding Ranvijay still fast asleep.

"What should I do with him?" she muttered under her breath, hands on her hips.

Walking to his side, she shook him firmly until he stirred. This time, she was determined not to let him drift off again.

Ranvijay sat up groggily, his hair messier than before, and looked at her like an annoyed child.

"Aise dekhne se kuch nahi hoga. You've slept enough," she said, crossing her arms. "Aur aap hi toh keh rahe the na ki aapko office jaana hai? Toh ab uth jaaiye-it's 8 already!"

Ranvijay sighed dramatically and fell back onto the pillows. "Let me gather some strength first," he said, smirking faintly.

Sanyukta rolled her eyes. Determined, she yanked the blanket off him and began folding it, earning a chuckle from him.

"Meri neend se kya dushmani hai teri?" he teased, propping himself up on his elbow.

"Koi dushmani nahi hai," she replied with mock sweetness, "but shaayad aapko kuch zyada hi pyaar hai neend se." She moved to the windows and threw open the curtains, letting the sunlight flood the room.

Ranvijay shielded his eyes dramatically. "Itni bright morning banane ki kya zarurat thi?"

"Chaliye ab! Bohot strength mil gayi ab. Let me make the bed," she said, extending her hand to him.

Ranvijay raised his eyebrows, looking at her hand. "Are you sure tum mujhe utha dogi?" he asked challengingly.

She nodded confidently, her lips curving into a mischievous smile.

Ranvijay smirked and reached for Sanyukta&s hand . With a mischievous glint in his eyes , he let her pull him , but didn't make the slightest effort to get up .
Caught off guard, Sanyukta stumbled and fell on him , landing staight against his chest .

A heart laughed escaped Ranvijay's lips , his amusement filing the room .
Meanwhile, Sanyukta groaned in frustration, her pout firmly in place as she glared at him .

"Better luck next time ," he teased patted her head as if she were a little child .

"Jaan bhuj ke kiya na ye ?" Sanyukta accused, narrowing her eyes at him .

Feigning innocence, Ranvijay shook his head dramatically. "Of course not !".

Before she could retort, he rolled her under him with a smooth , Swift movement, pinning her against the mattress . Her breath hitched as she suddenly became aware of their position.

Ranvijay's face hovered just above hers, and his mischevious smirk deepened when he noticed the faint flush spreading across her cheeks .

He leaned down , his fingers brushing the side of her waist causing her to hiss lightly and squeeze her eyes shut at the tingling sensation.

"You know what ....."he murmured , his fingers gently caressing her cheek .

Sanyukta's eyes fluttred open, and she met his intense gaze ." What ...?"
She whispered,her voice barely audible.

"You look so fucking seductive," he husked , his deep voice sending shivers down her spine .

Sanyukta's breath hitched again , her chest rising and falling rapidly. She tried to look away ,but his eyes held here captive . The undeniable physical attraction between them was electrifying, neither of them resisting the closeness or the warmth of each other's touch .

Ranvijay's hand found hers , his fingers interlocking with hers as he brought it closer to his face . He inhaled deeply, letting the faint scent of mehandi linger .
"I love the smell of henna on your hands ." He admitted his lips brushing against her knuckles.

Sanyukta bit her lower lip nervously, her breathing uneven . Her heart thudded loudly in her chest , and she cursed her own body for reacting so shamelessly to his words and touches .

"Breakfast ke liye wait kar rahe honge sab " ,she whispered breathlessly, hoping to distract him and herself.

"So?" Ranvijay asked , clearly enjoying her flustered state .

His amusement only heightened her embarrassment. She gulped, her eyes darting around the room as she avoided his intense gaze .
The proximity, the intemacy, and his shirtless form -all of it was too much for her poor heart .

Her body betrayed her futher as she felt a throbbing heat building in her lower abdomen. Shame washed over her at her reaction, frustration evident on her face .
She took a deep breath to take control of the situation.

"Mujhe jaane dijiye", she said softly refusing to meet his eyes .

But Ranvijay wasn't ready to let her go just yet . With a grin ,he relaxed further , deliberately letting more of his weight press against her .
Sanyukta gasped as her soft curves were crushed under him, making her let out a small cry .

He caged her legs between his , his hot breath fanning her lips . Everything about the moment -from his teasing smile to the heat radiating from his body -was creating a havoc in her senses.

"Mummaaaaaa!" Avu's voice rang out as Sanyukta and Ranvijay froze. Ranvijay, still sprawled lazily on the bed, smirked and released his hold on Sanyukta.

Her heart pounding from their earlier moment, Sanyukta quickly scrambled to her feet and opened the door. Standing there was Avu, clutching a spoon in one tiny hand, and Aarvi, smiling sweetly.

"Chachiiii, Avu ko khana khila do. He's not eating without you," Aarvi said in her innocent, singsong voice, making Sanyukta smile despite her flustered state.

Sanyukta's gaze softened as she looked down at Avu, her little bundle of joy, who was pouting with big, expectant eyes. She leaned down and kissed both children on their cheeks.

"Chalo, let's go," she said warmly, taking each child by the hand and guiding them downstairs.

Behind her, Ranvijay remained on the bed, watching her retreating form with a mischievous smile.

"I guess getting married isn't so bad after all," he muttered to himself, his boyish grin widening. Teasing her had become his favorite pastime.

Stretching lazily, he finally got up and strolled to the bathroom. Turning on the faucet, he splashed cold water on his face, grinning at his reflection in the mirror. "Oh, I missed my chance. Should've asked her to help me instead. Her reaction would've been priceless," he chuckled to himself.

Once ready, Ranvijay made his way downstairs, adjusting his shirt as he descended. The warm, bustling sound of family chatter greeted him, though most were already finished with breakfast.

"Good morning, familyyy!" he called out cheerfully, his deep voice carrying through the room. He walked over to his grandmother and planted a quick kiss on her cheek.

"Mere baby ka mood kitna achha hai aaj!" Dadi teased, chuckling at his affectionate gesture.

Ranvijay plopped down beside Avu, ruffling the little boy's hair. "What's my champ eating?" he asked, peeking at Avu's plate.

"Partaaa!" Avu replied proudly, his face lighting up with a grin.

Ranvijay laughed, leaning in to kiss his nose. His gaze shifted to Sanyukta, who was completely focused on feeding Avu, her gentle hands guiding the spoon to the toddler's mouth. There was a certain grace in the way she handled the moment-effortless yet mesmerizing.

Just then, Vidya, a woman in her late forties and the family's most trusted helper, approached with a tray of food for Ranvijay. She placed it in front of him with a warm smile.

"Vidya Kaki, only you care about me in this house. Aap nahi hoti toh pata nahi kya hota. My six-pack abs' credit goes to you only!" Ranvijay declared dramatically, holding Vidya's hand as though he were making a heartfelt confession.

Vidya laughed, patting his cheek like a fond mother.

Sanyukta, still sitting beside Avu, glanced up at Ranvijay and shook her head, unable to hold back a faint smile. She knew exactly where his theatrical praise was directed-to her. He had a knack for pointing out things indirectly, but she wasn't falling for it.

Her husband, though undeniably infuriating at times, had a charm she couldn't ignore. As she looked back at Avu, who giggled at something Ranvijay had said, she realized-whether she admitted it or not-this new life of hers wasn't all bad.

Anushka, halfway through her breakfast, glanced at Ranvijay with a playful smirk.

"Bhaiii, forget everything else. Today is Bhabhi's muh dikhai function. But I want to know-what wedding gift did you give Bhabhi? You'll also need to give her something for the function," Anushka said, her tone dripping with curiosity.

Ranvijay didn't even pause to think. "I didn't give her anything," he said nonchalantly. "And by the way, it was my wedding too! Who gives gifts at their own wedding? It's tradition to receive gifts, not give them."

Anushka rolled her eyes dramatically. "Bhai, you're such a miser. You can't even give a gift to your wife? Seriously, what did Bhabhi see in you to marry you?" she muttered, making Sanyukta chuckle under her breath.

"What do you mean, kya dekh ke? Handsome, smart, intelligent-that's what she saw. Unlike you, she's not a greedy little monkey," Ranvijay retorted with a smug grin, boosting himself.

Anushka huffed indignantly, crossing her arms. "Bhabhi, I really feel sorry for you. Everyone gets wedding gifts, but not you! And on top of that, you're stuck with a self-obsessed husband. You're going to have to bear with him now."

Ranvijay mimicked her, scrunching his face and repeating in a whiny voice, "Bhabhhiiii, I feel so sorryyyy."

Then, with mock seriousness, he added, "Go to your room, stand in front of the mirror, and feel sorry for yourself. You're missing out on a crucial organ-called a brain. That's why no one in the house says anything to you. Bechari can't process logic or reason, so what's the point?"

Anushka let out an exaggerated whine, stomping her foot. "Maaaa! Bhai mujhe pareshan kar rahe hai subah subah!" she yelled, exasperated.

"Ranvijay!" Pushpa's warning voice came from the hall. Ranvijay laughed in response, earning another pout from Anushka.

Avu, who had been quietly watching his father's antics, joined in, mimicking Ranvijay and making Anushka pout even more. Sanyukta shook her head with a small smile as she stood up, having finished feeding Avu.

"Daddyyy... mujhe bhi jaana hai!" Avu clung to Ranvijay as he grabbed his keys and overcoat.

Ranvijay picked him up with ease, kissing his chubby cheek. "Champ, Dady has to go to court today-to punish bad people. You stay here with Mumma and Aarvi. Play some fun games, okay?" he explained lovingly.

"Maine cotttt jaana hai! I will beattt bad pepl!" Avu said confidently, making Ranvijay laugh.

"Nahin, Avuuu! Let Dady go. We'll play games, and if you go, who will play with Aarvi Didi? She'll be alone," Sanyukta reasoned, trying to take Avu from Ranvijay's arms. But Avu clung to him stubbornly.

"Let me talk to my boy in private," Ranvijay said with a grin, motioning for Sanyukta to let him handle it.

Turning to Avu, he said gently, "You're my strong boy, right?"

Avu nodded proudly, his little chest puffing up.

"Hmmm. So here's the thing. Dady is going out to punish bad people, but Mumma will be all alone at home. She needs someone strong and brave to take care of her. That's you, right?"

Avu's eyes sparkled with importance. "Aapko Mumma ka dhyan rakhna hai. Agar koi Mumma ko kuch kahe, you tell Dady, okay?" Ranvijay added, giving him a serious look.

The little boy nodded enthusiastically, feeling the weight of his new responsibility. "Okayyyy, Daddyyy!" Avu grinned, his chest swelling with pride.

"That's my good boy!" Ranvijay said, planting a kiss on his cheek. "Sanyuktaaaa," he called.

To Sanyukta's surprise, Avu willingly went to her this time, flashing his toothy grin. She gave Ranvijay a look of amused disbelief as she scooped Avu into her arms.

"Shall I go now?" Ranvijay asked Avu, who nodded confidently.

"Daddyyy, hugggyyy!" Avu spread his little arms wide, and Ranvijay leaned down to envelop him in a tight hug, kissing his head fondly.

His eyes met Sanyukta's as she smiled warmly at the sweet moment. "You need a hug too?" Ranvijay teased with a wink, opening his arms dramatically.

Sanyukta raised an eyebrow, pretending to think. He tilted his head in mock impatience. "Your loss," he said with a smirk, turning to leave.

But just as he started to walk away, Sanyukta stepped closer and wrapped her arms around him in a quick hug.

"Take care," she murmured softly, pulling back.

"You too," he said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "And call me if you miss me," he added with a playful smirk.

"Why would I miss you? I'll be happy! Mujhe koi pareshan nahi karega!" she retorted with a chuckle.

"Whatever makes you feel better," Ranvijay said, flashing her a boyish grin as he got into his car.

As he drove off, Sanyukta and Avu stood at the doorway, waving goodbye. Ranvijay smiled, returning their wave before disappearing down the street.
